Ames Discount Department Stores

Ames Department Stores was a chain of discount stores based in Rocky Hill, Connecticut, founded in 1958. At its peak, Ames operated 700 stores in 20 states, making it the fourth-largest discount retailer in the country. A decline in sales resulted in bankruptcy, and Ames eventually went out of business in 2002.
