If you grew up in the 70s and 80s, Big Surf was the place to be in the summertime. Big Surf was a water park opened in 1969, located in Tempe, Arizona. It boasted the first wave pool in the United States. In 1979, the park added water slides. Pink Floyd performed at Big Surf in 1972 as part of their Dark Side of the Moon Tour. A popular teen disco known as The Rock Hop operated at Big Surf on Friday nights between 1977 and 1980. The park would never reopen after closing during the pandemic. Big Surf was an Arizona icon for over 40 years.
