Caldor was a discount department store chain founded in 1951 in Port Chester, New York. By 1963, Caldor had stores in New York and Connecticut. Despite its successes, Caldor suffered from financial issues in the 1990s. The company was liquidated, and all 145 stores closed in 1999.
