Korvette's was a chain of discount department stores founded in 1948 in New York City. E. J. Korvette did much to define the idea of a discount department store. The company used several retail innovations to propel its rapid growth. It used discounting, even though most discounting was known to be outlawed at the time. Korvette's started to decline in the 1960s due to inconsistent management. The company was sold, and by 1980, they would declare bankruptcy, with all remaining stores being closed.
