FedMart opened in 1954 in San Diego, California, as a chain of discount department stores started by Sol Price, who also founded Price Club. FedMart was originally opened as a discount department store for government employees, who also paid a $2 per family membership fee. FedMart was highly successful and expanded to several states in the Southwest. FedMart went out of business in 1982.
