Opening in 1981, Mabel's was a popular bar near the University of Illinois known for booking big-time acts. Mabel's was booked nearly every night, featuring artists like Alice in Chains, Cheap Trick, Joan Jett, and Green Day, to name a few. Mabel's closed in the late 90s when the cost of booking the same acts that made them popular became too expensive.
