The New York Golden Blades were a professional hockey team that played in the WHA (World Hockey Association) from 1972 to 1974. The Golden Blades played at Madison Square Garden. Originally called the New York Raiders, the team struggled to compete with the already established New York Rangers and the expansion New York Islanders. After the team's third owner took over, they were renamed the New York Golden Blades. Due to financial issues, the team moved to New Jersey and was once again renamed the New Jersey Knights, its third name in less than two seasons. In 1974, the team would relocate to California and become the San Diego Mariners.
