O’Hara’s, a Westwood dive bar originally opened under the name Maloney’s On Campus in 1994, was an icon for UCLA students. Generations of students planned their week around O’Hara’s themed nights: Pint Night on Tuesday, Thirsty Thursdays, and $1 shots during Friday’s 9 p.m. “Survivor Hour.” Every night, during the last call, O’Hara’s staff would play Semisonic’s “Closing Time” and the theme from the old TV show “Cheers”. Zoning laws, licensing issues, and more made it difficult to operate if you were a bar in Westwood Village. O'Hara's would close in 2016, being replaced by Rocco’s Tavern, an Italian-themed chain restaurant.
