The Brown Derby was a Los Angeles-based restaurant chain with 4 locations around town, created by screenwriter Wilson Mizne. The Original Brown Derby opened in 1926 on Wilshire Boulevard and was the only one built in the shape of a derby hat. Due to its success, the restaurant relocated to a larger building, also in the shape of a hat, about a block away from its original location. It was known for the array of Hollywood stars that would frequent the restaurant, as well as for the invention of the Cobb salad. 1960, the Derby began to decline, and by the mid-80s, the Brown Derby restaurants were just a memory.
